City Park Historic Restoration
and Recreational Improvements
La Junta, CO

Marc Diament Architecture is currently working with the City of La Junta to restore its City Park. The growth of interest in the historic value of the City Park is based on the fact that it was an important work constructed under the Federal Works Progress Administration (WPA) program.

This historic site is large, comprising eight complete city blocks, four separate historic buildings, numerous stone benches, entry features, and over 6,300 running feet of original stone wall. All these features were constructed in the 1930’s in the unique fieldstone style that the WPA developed in southeastern Colorado.

Marc Diament Architecture prepared the initial Historic Structure Assessment of the Park with the support of the Colorado Historical Society’s State Historical Fund which provided funding and technical support. Following that, the firm was responsible for designing the repair of the historic walls surrounding the park and the design of recreational
improvements to the park as a whole.
